In recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month, Aquassure is helping to spread the word about pre-diabetes, a silent warning sign of future diabetes.
Pre-diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. You can have pre-diabetes or undiagnosed type 2 diabetes without having any obvious warning signs or symptoms. Nearly 50 percent of those that have pre-diabetes will go on to develop type 2 diabetes. The problem is widespread; almost a quarter of Canadians have pre-diabetes or diabetes. There is hope. Knowing your risk levels can help you make healthy choices now that will reduce your risk or even prevent you from developing the disease.
Take the CANRISK test to see what your risk level is: http://www.diabetes.ca/take-the-test/#sthash.SaXbLRFZ
You could win prizes and a donation will be made to diabetes research, just by taking the test.
It is important to know if you have prediabetes, because research has shown that some long-term complications associated with diabetes – such as heart disease and nerve damage – may begin during prediabetes.
