March 22nd is the American Diabetes Association Alert Day

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and another 57 million have prediabetes, which can progress into type 2 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes is over $174 billion per year. Further studies suggest that when additional costs for gestational diabetes, prediabetes, and undiagnosed diabetes are included, the total diabetes-related costs in the U.S. could be more than $218 billion.

The American Diabetes Association Alert Day is a one-day event where Americans can take charge of their health by taking the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

The Diabetes Risk Test asks simple questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risks for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Based on the answers to the questions, the test shows users whether they are at low, moderate or high risk for type 2 diabetes. Contact your doctor to discuss if you are high risk.

Visit http://stopdiabetes.diabetes.org on March 22 to take the test! You can take the test online, or phone toll-free: 1-800-DIABETES.
